Large RF Shielded Enclosures-Giants! I always say that VTT fabricates RF Shielded Enclosures to satisfy the needs of our customers, whether it’s as small as our 3D Pouch, our “small test lab”, or a much larger one. This year, we are receiving orders for “Testing Megastructures”, very large testing enclosures. RF Shielded enclosures provide the low ambient RF environment required for Pre-Compliance EMC testing. The size of the testing enclosure is typically dependent on the size of the Device Under Testing (DUT). RF Shielded Enclosures typically allow “bringing the test lab to the DUT” rather than bringing the DUT to the test lab.

Large RF Shielded Enclosures-Giants! The manufacturers of large devices now have large enclosures built at their development sites. This process allows them to complete the necessary certification processes during product development without moving complex large equipment the long distance to the registered compliance centers frequently. This is smart product development at its best, performing crucial tests during each step of development. In my opinion, this represents “best practice of product development”, given the size of these products. It’s only logical to correct EMC issues before they actually occur, eliminating the waste of time “backtracking” to discover and correct EMC issues late in the developmental process.

Large RF Shielded Enclosures-Giants! We typically call our testing enclosures “portable”. Moving these Testing Megastructures is a challenging process, but is certainly possible. The demand for and response to these large enclosures has been outstanding! Megastructures have the added capability for various modifications of their space, increasing the variety of testing methods they can facilitate.
