Robust Conductive Textiles, ready for Rough Conditions!

Robust Conductive Textiles, ready for rough conditions!  Conductive textiles have long been used in excellent RF Shielding applications.  The difficulty has always been that these conductive textiles are delicate, thin and tear easily.  Seaman Corporation from Wooster, Ohio has continuously manufactured durable high performance coated textiles for decades.  These coated textiles are used for roofing solutions, architectural structures, tents and tarps for the military, and Geomembranes.  The marriage of Conductive Textiles and a Ruggedized Coating to protect them seemed like a very logical step forward.  In March of 2021, Seaman Corporation and V Technical Textiles, Inc. introduced Shelter-Rite® RF.  This solution makes it possible to use Conductive Textiles in applications where weather, moisture, and rough handling are often factors.  These situations can include:

  • Portable Outdoor RF Shelters and RF Curtains.
  • Portable Command Posts for Police and Military Personnel.
  • Outdoor RF Shielded Enclosures.
  • Automotive Testing Chambers.
  • Aerospace Cleanrooms.
  • Architectural Shielding when applied externally to a previously existing structure.

Shelter-Rite RF Part:  LA101926A57-Surface Resistivity <0.07 Ω and Far Field Shielding Average 50-80 dB from 100 MHz-18 GHz.  Finished Weight (ASTM D751) 340 grams/square meter +70-35 grams /square meter. Grab Tensile (ASTM D751) 778/667 N, Strip Tensile (ASTM D751 Procedure B) 87/87 daN/5cm.  Tongue Tear (ASTM D751) 130/130 N.

Shelter-Rite RF Part:  LA101256A52-Surface Resistivity <0.009 Ω and Far Field Shielding Average 95 dB from 30 MHz-10 GHz.  Finished Weight – (ASTM D751) 340 grams/square meter +70-35 grams /square meter.  Grab Tensile (ASDM D751) 778/667 N.  Strip Tensile (ASTM D751 Procedure B) 87/87 daN/5cm. Tongue Tear (ASTM D751) 130/130 N

Robust Conductive Textiles, ready for rough conditions!  The durable coated Seaman Corporation Fabric applied to the delicate metalized textile protects the conductive textile from puncture, tearing, UV radiation, routine wear, and weather!  The Conductive Textiles maintain their excellent electrical properties.

As you can see there are very different ranges of Electrical Property specs obtainable from both fabrics, but both fabrics have the same durability Specs.   These two fabrics are each suitable in different electrical applications.  Anticipate the ability to have even more options in the future!

These Robust Conductive Textiles may be of use to you in situations unique to your requirements.  Please feel free to contact Sue Uhler, Senior Sales Engineer for Seaman Corporation for more information on this product line.  Sue may be reached at suhler@seamancorp.com or (330)-202-4471.
